The ultimate hair care guide

Der ultimative Haarpflege-Guide

Women and hair... it's like a complicated relationship: we love them, we hate them. We separate ourselves from them and try something new. And then you end up back with the tried and tested. So that “hairy” problems like split ends etc. don’t get to your head, here’s our ultimate hair care guide.

Wash & Go: Wash your hair

At some point it becomes a routine, like brushing your teeth or making coffee. Maybe that's why we often don't think enough about what's right and what's wrong when washing our hair?

Shampoo: Expensive brands from the hairdresser, vital natural products or conventional shampoos from the drugstore - every woman should decide for herself. It is important to choose the right product for your individual hair type.

Tip
: So we choose either a shampoo for dry, colored, curly, oily hair, etc.!

Washing: The water should not be too hot. Heat makes our hair dry and brittle. It's best to start washing lukewarm. For medium-length hair, distribute a walnut-sized amount of shampoo on the palms of your hands and massage gently into the scalp. Always clean the roots more intensively than the lengths and tips (the latter dry out more quickly).

Tip: Finally, let cold water flow over your hair and scalp - this also stimulates blood circulation!

Natural cosmetics brands

Rinse: A conditioner provides the optimal moisture boost and seals the hair surface. This means that the color lasts longer, the hair shines more and is easier to comb through. After washing, massage the conditioner into the lengths and ends. Leave on briefly, then rinse.

Tip: If your hair is extremely dry, massage a little conditioner into the lengths before washing - this will protect it from the shampoo!

Frequency: Just don't wash your hair every day! The faster they become greasy and/or dry out. It's best to extend the breaks between washing step by step. Your hair will slowly get used to it.

Tip: Washing every 3-4 days is basically enough.

Dry & Go: Dry your hair

One takes too long, the other is not gentle enough in the long term? Drying hair is not the same as drying hair. However, there is no clear rule. We recommend a mix of several variants.

Dry: Gently squeeze out wet hair with your hands. Then gently “dab” it with a towel. Under no circumstances should you rub, as this makes the surface of the hair rough and dull - there is a risk of split ends. It's best to wrap your hair loosely in a towel and let it dry further.

Tip: A microfiber model absorbs up to 2x more water than a cotton towel!

Hair colors: the new trends

Blow-drying: Blow-drying is generally done more often and for longer periods of time. No wonder, who wants to go out the door with a wet head in sub-zero temperatures? However, the heat from a hairdryer also dries out the hair quickly. And if you then use a straightening iron or curling iron to heat up the hair, it becomes brittle and dull.

Tip: It's best to spray on a heat protectant before blow-drying!

Air drying: No problem in summer, your hair will be dried outside after a short time. If we go directly into the sun with wet hair, it has a similar effect to blow-drying. The heat attacks the hair and dries it out.

Tip: The longer the hair dries after washing, the shorter the blow-dry time is!

Comb & Go: Comb your hair

“100 brush strokes a day make your hair shine” – we got this beauty tip from grandma. But a lot of combing also puts strain on the hair. That's probably why 10 do.

Comb: We often only comb our hair after washing because it's easier with wet hair. It's better to untangle it slightly beforehand. Knots become even tighter when wet and become even harder to come out.

Tip: We always comb from bottom to top, i.e. first the ends and then the lengths!

Foods for beautiful hair

Brush: After combing through, gently brush the entire hair again. The rule of thumb is “comb wet hair, brush dry hair”.

Tip: It's best to use a product made from natural bristles, as it's also gentle on the scalp!

Cut & Go: Cut hair

Some like it, others hate it. Young women like to cry while doing it, others feel more liberated afterwards. But good hair care is as important as a pot on a lid.

Cutting: Regular hair cutting is mandatory. Because once the ends are broken, split ends arise. And it keeps moving upwards. If the hair then splits down to the root, it falls out.

Tip: For long hair we recommend cutting every 3-4 months, for short hair if possible every 6 weeks! When is the right time to cut your hair? A look at the lunar calendar reveals it!

Trend hairstyles: cuts & hairstyles for all lengths

Myth: Many women believe that their hair will grow faster if the ends are trimmed regularly. However, that is not true. They grow healthier, but not faster.

Tip: It's better to cut off just a little bit at a time rather than cutting off a lot all at once because your hair is damaged!

Care & Go: care for your hair

We know how to wash, dry, comb and cut our hair properly. Here are a few additional tips on how to keep our hair even voluminous and healthier:

  • Massage: Hair grows better and healthier when the scalp is well supplied with blood. Regular head massages (e.g. as an extra when visiting the hairdresser) are ideal. But feel free to lend a hand yourself: Simply knead your scalp gently with your fingers once a day for a few minutes.
  • Hair oil: It protects dry and/or colored hair, but also prevents split ends. The oil seals the hair structure and prevents it from drying out too quickly. It's also great for on the go: spray on and you're done.
  • Hair treatment: Also called a hair mask. Not without reason, because a treatment is what a mask is to the face. It nourishes the hair and rebuilds it. Leave it on for half an hour about once a week, then rinse carefully.

Simple updos: instructions and ideas

  • Pillow (cover): A synthetic material roughens the hair too much while we toss and turn in bed. A silk cover is much more suitable.
  • Night hairstyle: A braided braid, ponytail or bun is better than leaving your hair open. This means they don't get tangled so quickly and stay nice and supple. Speaking of braids: a so-called “Invisibobble” is gentler than a normal hair tie!
  • Anti-dandruff: Microorganisms and residues from styling products tend to collect in combs and brushes. This promotes dandruff. It is best to clean the utensils regularly with a mild shampoo.
